Noah's Arc offers Queer Eye for Black America

‘I walked into the club, and it was full, mostly, of black gay men from all over the country,’ recalls filmmaker Patrik-Ian Polk about 2003's Los Angeles Black Pride celebration. ‘And I was immediately struck with the notion that this was a group who was just not being served by mainstream Hollywood. There was no film or TV project being produced for that audience specifically.’

Already through its 2nd season the counterculture hit "Noah's Arc" through dramatic and comedic effects (dramedy) shows what it is like to be Young, Black, Beautiful, Gifted and Gay…Tha Artivist reports…

It amazes me that one of the best kept secrets on tv has managed through its best season yet to remain just that…In the closet…"Noah's Arc" one of the best original t.v. shows not showing on HBO as far as cable tv is concerned…The show's official home is the cable network known as LOGO the first cable network dedicated to programming for the gay, lesbian, trans-gendered, bi and tri -sexual community was created by the folks at MTV/Viacom…However, much like Viacom owned BET (which was supposedly created for Black folk) the audience is always a little bit more diverse than originally intended…

The brainchild of veteran filmmaker, gay rights advocate and native son of Hattiesburg , Mississippi Patrik-Ian Polk, in the official press release it states the following concerning the historical significance of the show:
Independently produced, "Noah's Arc" is America's first black gay series.

The show is centered around Noah, an up and coming Hollywood screen writer and his three best friends a.k.a. support team or ARC ( Alex works as a HIV/AIDS counselor, Ricky owns a trendy and hip clothing store on Melrose and is the playboy of the group and Chance is a college professor) "Noah's ARC" is like "Girlfriends" and "Sex and the City" meets "Queer as Folk" and Soul FoodDarryl Stephen's charismatic Noah is definitely Tracee Ellis Ross's Joan Carol Clayton (Girlfriends) and Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw (Sex and the City) equal as far as lead characters are concerned…And just like the leads in Girlfriends and Sex and the City, Noah has a huge sexual appetite as well as a huge soft spot and loyalty for his best friends...The show basically addresses what it is like to be a openly gay successful Black man in America…What makes the show appealing to mean is that it's more about relationship and meaning between people on all levels than just being a show about homosexual or same sex relationships…It's a very universal and inclusive message…The show is well written , directed and acted…Just like life the show features a carnivale of emotions...The issues discussed on the show makes for great water cooler conversations in the office...The show addresses issues such as gay marriage/civil unions, AIDS/HIV awareness, homophobia, hate crimes, raising kids with same sex parents, down lown phenomena, sexuality in the Hip Hop culture etc., subjects which are often considered as taboo and 'untouchable' by many in the Black community…

I actually discovered this show by accident while channel surfing one night almost a year ago…
I am a fan of the show as well as a heterosexual Black male and I am not afraid to tell people that I watch Noah's ARC (after all I am writing about it) and I always tell people to see it for themselves and make their own decision…
