Woodson In Terms Of African American Scholarship...Because Of This And In Addition To His Brilliant And Invaluable Scholarship And Research In To The Condition And Contributions Of The African American Experience, Dr. John Hope Franklin Is Considered By Many To Be The Dean Of African American Scholars...

In 1995, He Was Awarded The Presidential Medal of Freedom, The Nation's Highest Civilian Honor...On November 15, 2006, It Was Announced That Franklin Was The Third Recipient Of The John W. Kluge Prize For Lifetime Achievement In The Study Of Humanity. He Shared The Prize With Yu Ying-shih.
