About Say It Loud!


Since 1997 the Say It Loud! Readers and Writers Series provided an opportunity for Little Rock youth ages 12-18 to participate in activities designed to enhance their appreciation for literature as a tool for personal, educational and career development. Over 3000 youth and adults have participated in numerous workshops and lectures at various venues sponsored by Say It Loud!. It should also be of noted that Say It Loud! members are enrolled in colleges around the country. The program has featured noted individuals such Dr. Julianne Malveaux, Dr. Na’im Akbar, Haki R. Madhubuti, Dr. Tony Medina, Dr. Beverly Guy-Sheftall, Kevin Powell, Patrice Gaines and others.

About Bro. Patrick Oliver


Patrick Oliver is founder of the Say It Loud! Readers and Writers Series a literary arts program dedicated to promoting reading and writing as tools of empowerment. He is a highly respected marketing consultant with past and present business affiliations with several noted authors and publishing companies. Mr. Oliver is co-founder of the Black Male Development Symposium along with award-winning author Haki R. Madhubuti and noted sociologist Useni Eugene Perkins. Mr. Oliver serves as consultant with the Princeton University State of the Black Male Conference and the Arcadia University Black Male Development Symposium. Mr. Oliver is co-founder of the Harlem Book Fair Children’s Pavilion and coordinator for the African Festival of the Arts Book Pavilion. Mr. Oliver was Director of Sales and Marketing at Third World Press. He was also Program Director for the Institute for Positive Living Open Book Program a citywide after-school reading program in Chicago.

April 2007 Mr. Oliver launched the Speak Loudly Speakers Bureau to offer speakers from various professions to deliver thought-provoking presentations on a variety of topics. Speak Loudly will also assist with planning other projects such as book discussions and signings, panel discussions, literary festivals and the acquisition of books for your home, office and educational institution.

His literary projects have been featured on CSPAN BookTV, NPR, BET, Comcast, NBC, Pacifica Radio and other major media outlets. He was featured on CSPAN BookTV July 2006 discussing the topic Literacy Now! Developing the Next Generation of Readers. He has presented and facilitated panels at Princeton University, American Library Association Joint Conference on Librarians of Color Conference, College Language Association, Chicago State University, Miles College, Harlem Book Fair, Association of Writers and Writing Programs and numerous other conferences and events.

He is editor of the anthology Turn the Page and You Don’t Stop: Sharing Successful Chapters in Our Lives with Youth. This anthology features the writings from some of the nations top artist, educators and scholars promoting the power of reading and writing. Writers such as Professor Haki R. Madhubuti, economist Dr. Julianne Malveaux, award-winning author Patricia Gaines and former White House diarist Janis F. Kearney share their love of reading in this much talked about text.
