The Final Call
Jul 28, 2009
CHICAGO, Mosque Maryam (FinalCall.com) - Speaking from the headquarters of the Nation of Islam, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan delivered a powerful and insightful address July 26 on the “the crucifixion of Michael Jackson” and how the public campaigns against the pop icon are linked to historical and ongoing attacks against Black leaders.
In addition, Min. Farrakhan shared the spiritual dimensions of Mr. Jackson's appeal across lines of race, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation and geography as a sign of the ultimate upliftment of Blacks and all of humanity through the coming of a prophetic figure who destroys division and ushers in God's kingdom of justice. Min. Farrakhan also said President Barack Obama and his appeal is another “herald,” or sign of this prophetic one, called Messiah by Christians, or Great Mahdi, in Islam.
The two-hour lecture highlighted Mr. Jackson's growing race consciousness and fears of the pop icon's potential social and political impact. “Why would we, as intelligent believing people, put Michael Jackson in the same kind of trauma, dilemma, torture and scourging as the man Jesus?” the Minister asked early in his lecture.
“They mocked Jesus. When they crucified him, they had at the top of the cross, ‘Jesus, King of the Jews.' Michael, also a king was crucified, the so-called king of pop. I see Michael much deeper than those who have talked about him,” said Min. Farrakhan.
His message was broadcast live domestically and internationally through www.noi.org and the flagship mosque was filled, along with overflow rooms in the lower level and at Muhammad University of Islam next door. Min. Farrakhan also revealed, for the first time, that the entertainer donated $100,000 to the historic Million Man March in 1995, along with other causes setting a record with over $300 million in contributions to Africa, charities and children's causes. Mr. Jackson died June 25. A probe of his death may be turning into a criminal investigation of his doctor and possible manslaughter charges.
Comparing America to the Roman Empire, the Minister explained physical crucifixion in ancient times is manifested today in media coverage and government attempts to discredit and destroy Black leaders and potential leaders. The plots also reflect fulfillment of scripture as Black people of America match the description of the children of Israel under King Herod, and his edict that male babies be slain to prevent the birth of the messiah, he said.
The late FBI director J. Edgar Hoover worked to prevent the “rise of a Black messiah” who could galvanize the Black nationalist movement in the 1960s and 1970s, but all Black organizations, including civil rights groups, were infiltrated and targeted for government surveillance.
“In the modern Rome, America, they have always feared that somebody would rise from among us and unify Black people should they go to war with a foreign government that we might join on with that foreign government and go against them,” the Minister said.
“So there is a Black plot against the Black male and it's real, brothers and sisters. And any one of us that shows his head as a potential leader, the eyes of our enemies are on that one because if you show that you could be a messianic voice then they will move to silence you,” the Minister said.
Crucifixion was used by Persians, Greeks, Macedonians, Carthaginians and the Romans, reserved for slaves, rebels, pirates and especially for despised enemies and criminals. “Crucifixion was considered a most disgraceful and shameful way to die,” the Minister said.
“Once you were crucified, it's like you deserved that punishment—so the people are not asking for you to come down, they are happy to see you on that cross. Look at the role the media has played in the crucifixion of Black leaders,” he said.
“You notice how every one that got crucified first got crucified in the media. The media is used to demagnetize the person who has attracted huge crowds. So to demagnetize you means to make you, now, unattractive to the people that once were attracted to you,” Min. Farrakhan said.
Certain Jewish Zionists have been part of the group that sought to control the means by which the crucifixion would take place, he said.
Mr. Jackson also shared his desire to do a movie on the beauty and contribution but Africa but was turned down by friends Steven Spielberg and David Geffen, entertainment industry power houses the Minister said. Mr. Jackson, who like all of Black America was taught that he was ugly, worked to change his appearance and balance out his skin from a disease that made it white, the Minister said.
But his thinking was Black-oriented and lyrics in songs reflected his changing mind, said Min. Farrakhan. “Michael, then, was on his way to the cross because Michael had touched the hearts of people all over the world. Michael touched every race, every culture, every ethnic group, every tribe—there was nothing Michael hadn't touched,” said the Minister. “And now he's becoming Dangerous? Dangerous to who? To those who want to keep you ignorant to who you are so they can continue to use us as tools and slaves. It's not about hate. This is not about anti-Semitism. It's about showing who is anti-Black.”
“Dangerous” was the title of Mr. Jackson's 1991 album that debuted as No. 1 on the Billboard music chart.
Lyrics from “They Don't Really Care About Us,” a single on Mr. Jackson's 1995 “HIStory” album, were signs of changes in his thinking, the Minister continued. The lyrics in the 1995 song protested the denial of promised freedom, police brutality, racism, hatred and government failures.
Mr. Jackson was made to change the words “kike me” in the song, but the other lyrics were strident protests against problems in society: “I have a wife and two children who love me, I am the victim of police brutality, now I'm tired to bein' the victim of hate, You're rapin' me of my pride, Oh for God's sake, I look to heaven to fulfill its prophecy and set me free. Skinhead, dead head, everybody gone bad, Trepidation, speculation, Everybody allegation, In the suite, on the news, Everybody dog food, Bang bang, shot dead, Everybody's gone mad. All I wanna say is that, They don't really care about us.”
As the Minister read the song lyrics, the crowd exploded into applause.
Min. Farrakhan then shared words from a lecture delivered at Oxford University in 2001 by Mr. Jackson, whose relationship with the Minister started in the 1980s. In the lecture, the entertainer talked about the need to connect parents with children, and of his desire to “recreate the parent/child bond,” the Minister said. The Oxford lecture also contained Mr. Jackson's deeper understanding of his father in light of his growing up as a “poor Black man in the south, robbed of dignity, bereft of hope, struggling to become a man in a world that saw my father as subordinate,” the Minister read. Mr. Jackson also spoke of coming to see his father's strong discipline as “a kind of love, an imperfect love” but one driven by never wanting to see his offspring degraded, Min. Farrakhan read.
Mr. Jackson's appeal, his knowledge and control of a 750,000 song music catalog, worth over $1 billion, which includes his master recordings and groups as varied as the Beatles, Neil Diamond, Elvis Presley, the Staple Singers and the Jonas Brothers, was seen as a problem, the Minister said.
“What you don't understand about the enemy, when they fear you, the first thing they must do is destroy your reputation. Then, destroy your wealth. And if you're still alive, (Blacks) can have him now because he's no more, has no more money,” said Min. Farrakhan.
Despite acquittal on child molestation charges in 2005, the stain of having the media and others label him a child predator persisted. “It doesn't seem to make any difference if you win in court. Now the only time that he went to court on these charges he won,” said Min. Farrakhan. Mr. Jackson and his attorneys had said the charges were part of an extortion attempt.
In a tape recorded conversation, the father of a boy who settled a $22 million case in 1994 with Mr. Jackson after charging sexual abuse of his son, expressed a determination to go after the singer in 1993, said Min. Farrakhan. The father, Evan Chandler, expressed little regard for the impact of the charges or trial on his son, said the Minister, citing a transcript of July 2, 1993 call with Mr. Chandler.
“It will be a massacre if I don't get what I want. It's going to be bigger than all of us put together. This man Jackson is going to be humiliated beyond belief and will not sell one more record,” the Minister said. Mr. Jackson and his supporters said he was the victim of a jealous father who wanted to extort money from the singer. The father also said the assault was bigger than him, included a zealous, “nasty” lawyer and Min. Farrakhan called the attack a conspiracy. “This is the crucifixion. You saw Michael's color going from Black to White, that's the outside journey. But the inside journey Michael was going from White to Black,” he said.
Rep. Peter King blasted Mr. Jackson, in early July, using a YouTube video to condemn media focus on Mr. Jackson's life and legacy. He called the singer “a pedophile,” “pervert,” and “child molester.” While the congressman demanded recognizing Americans who died in Afghanistan heroes, the Minister denounced the vicious attack on Mr. Jackson. He called Mr. King “criminal,” and a “heathen”—and accurately pointed out fighting in the war against terror was based on lies.
The This Is It tour, which included 50 dates and was planned to begin in the summer in London, was the singer's final tour and his attempt to reclaim his legacy, said the Minister. At the press conference to announce the tour, Mr. Jackson was wearing a military uniform and had a militant demeanor, “looked like an F.O.I. (Fruit of Islam). They didn't tell you what he was singing but in the end if you looked at his mouth, he said, ‘they don't care about us,'” he observed. “And when he raised his fist, he was telling the ‘would-be's' and the ‘wanna-be's:' … You can hang it up. You put my crown on the shelf, because it's an unreachable star. It's the unattainable goal. But I am going to show the world that I am Michael Jackson—and I am fighting for my legacy! This is it!”
Days before his death, the Minister said he got a call from someone saying Mr. Jackson had agreed to 10 concert dates, but the contract was set up for 50 dates and there was fear that he would not be able to make the tour dates and lose his catalog. While out of the country, the Minister received word of cardiac arrest and the passing of Michael Jackson.
The Minister expressed concern that a doctor treating Mr. Jackson may have given him an anesthetic because the singer had trouble sleeping. It may be appropriate to charge the doctor with manslaughter, but Mr. Jackson “had a way of getting people to do things for him that wasn't best,” he said. The singer suffered from addictions to painkillers following a accident where his hair caught on fire during the filming of a commercial in 1984. He also reportedly suffered from the painful disease Lupus.
Min. Farrakhan expressed his hurt and personal sense of loss with the death of the young man he had known and watched for many years. Others who heard the lecture expressed how it expanded their view of Mr. Jackson.
Herb Boyd, a New York-based journalist with the Amsterdam News and OurWorldTodayTV.Net, noted that Min. Farrakhan “made that connection with the universality of Michael Jackson and Barack Obama in conjunction with their lives—one representing that universal sound and Barack representing that universal leadership and how he has brought the whole world together. The two of them represented a kind of unity, a very important unity for humankind,” he said.
George Curry, a writer, media coach and speaker, admitted he had been one of Mr. Jackson's critics. “But the information that the Minister just disclosed about him giving a hundred thousand dollars to the Million Man March and the various times that he met with him personally. I have now a totally positive impression on the man and I am not an easy person to change impressions,” he said, during an interview at Mosque Maryam.
William Reed, another Black press expert, said, “I didn't know that there was such an excellent insight and particularly the fact that Michael was a benefactor to the Million Man March in the amount of $100,000. Those kinds of thoughts and those kinds of visions of Michael would help alter the world's perception of him.”

The Crucifixion Of Michael Jackson And All Responsible Black Leaders
By the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan
Updated Jul 30, 2009 - 3:49:20 PM
In The Name of Allah, The Beneficent, The Merciful.
[Editor's Note: The following text is excerpted from a message delivered by Minister Louis Farrakhan on July 26, 2009 at Mosque Maryam in Chicago, Illinois.]
This is a strange subject: The Crucifixion of Michael Jackson. Why would we, as intelligent believing people, put Michael Jackson in the same kind of trauma, dilemma, torture and scourging as the man Jesus? The enemies of Jesus mocked him. When they crucified him, they had at the top of the cross “Jesus, King of the Jews.”
Michael Jackson, the so-called King of Pop, was also crucified. I see Brother Michael much deeper than those who have talked about him.
I want to talk to you today about the method that the enemy of God, and the enemy of the rise of humanity, is using, has used, and plans to use again to destroy leadership that will cause, first of all, Black people to rise; and second of all, humanity to rise.
You may ask “Rise from what?” If the scripture teaches that “Satan deceived the whole world,” are we in the world? Could it be that we, too, have been deceived? Well, what would the greatest deception be? The Greatest Deception would be to deceive humanity about that One that is prophesied to come to end Satan's world, and bring in a Kingdom wherein all human beings can find peace and security and justice. I am talking about The Messiah.
The greatest deception of humanity today would be to put our minds back 2,000 years ago to blind us to the time in which we are living now when the Messiah would absolutely be present in the world.
***
The scripture teaches God's coming is after the working of Satan. Not before, but on time. When Satan's time is up, God would enter into the world to challenge Satan, upset his rule, and His presence would create war and revolution! This is because it will take war and revolution to undermine Satan's power; and cause Satan to cast out Satan, so that the scriptures might be fulfilled where it teaches that if Satan casts out Satan, how, then, can his kingdom stand?
If God's coming is after the workings of Satan, how much time did God give Satan? Because we have to know the time in order to know if we are on time to expect that one.
Suffice it to say, the Jesus of 2,000 years ago was 2,000 years ahead of the end of Satan's time. Therefore, Jesus of 2,000 years ago could not effect the change that was in his heart to bring about. This Jesus prophesied that One was coming after him: “It is expedient for you that I go away, for if I go not away, the Comforter cannot come unto you. But if I go away, I will send him unto you in my name.”
Now Jesus is talking not about himself; he's talking about somebody else coming in his name. The Honorable Elijah Muhammad taught us that 75 percent of what you read in the New Testament about Jesus is referring to a future man.
Who are you looking for? When there's a “Wanted” poster, they try to give you an accurate description of the wanted one, so that should you see him, you can notify the appropriate authorities. How could God be less than the sheriff; or God be less than law enforcement to know that a man is coming that will end the world of Satan—a man that all human beings should gravitate toward—and not give us an accurate description of what that man would look like, where that man would come from, and from among what people should that man come?
Throughout the Bible, starting in the Book of Genesis, we are constantly taught of the man who would come under the title “Son of Man.” When God destroyed the wicked in the days of Noah, He says, “As it was in the in the days of Noah, so shall it be at the coming of the Son of Man.”
And in the Holy Qur'an, Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who was 1,400 years before the end of Satan's system of things, also prophesied of somebody coming who would be called “The Mahdi” (The Self-Guided One). Islamic tradition also teaches that with The Mahdi will be Jesus, The Messiah. Both of these men show up at the right time at the end of Satan's rule.
In the Qur'an, this man is called Maliki Yaum id-deen—Master of the Day of Requital; Master of the Day of Religion, because He comes to break up these artificial barriers between religion, and make religion one. This is why the Bible teaches in that day, there will be one faith, one lord and one baptism! It hasn't happened yet…but, it's on the way.
J. Edgar Hoover's plan to kill Black Messianic Voices
Crucifixion in the Modern Roman Empire—America—is just like the crucifixions of Ancient Rome. Ancient Rome is gone; Modern Rome is going.
In Modern Rome, the Counter Intelligence Program of the United States government, under J. Edgar Hoover, has always feared that somebody would rise from among us and unify Black people, and should they go to war with a foreign government, we might join on to that foreign government, and come against them. This also happened in the time of Jesus, the prophet, and Herod, the king, who wanted to kill all boy babies to prevent the Messiah from coming into the world. So today, there is a plot against the Black male. It's real, brothers and sisters.
Any one of us that shows our head as a potential leader, the eyes of our enemies are on that one, because if you show that you could be a Messianic Voice, then they will move to silence you! Let's examine J. Edgar Hoover's plan: 1) Hoover's Counter Intelligence Program was to prevent the coalition of Black Nationalist groups. They invested money into keeping nationalist groups separated from each other. And even plotted to get us to kill one another; 2) The aim was to prevent the rise of a Messiah who could unify and electrify the militant Black Nationalist Movement; 3) And to prevent violence on the part of Black Nationalist groups. Not violence among each other, but violence against them; 4) Their aim was to prevent militant Black Nationalist groups and leaders from gaining respectability by discrediting them with segments of the community; and 5) Prevent the long-range growth of these organizations, especially among young people!
Among the tactics they used were infiltration of Black organizations by agents and informers of the U.S. government to discredit and disrupt; use of dirty tricks, including the planting of false media stories, bogus leaflets, fake publications; forging correspondence, sending anonymous letters, and making anonymous phone calls; manipulating, or, strong-arming parents, employers, landlords, school officials and others to cause trouble for the activists; and, they used law to justify conducting break-ins, vandalism, assaults and beatings. The object was to frighten dissidents, and disrupt their movement.
Historically, crucifixion was used by the Persians, the Greeks, the Carthaginians, the Macedonians, and the Romans against slaves, rebels, pirates—and especially, despised enemies and criminals. Crucifixion was considered a most shameful and disgraceful way to die.
They would take the person, strip him of his clothes; make him carry his cross to the place of crucifixion—but it's all public. Everything is done in the public to bring about your shame; your disgrace. Strip you of your clothing; then they nailed your hands and your feet—none of your vital organs are touched, so that you can hang there, for hours and for days. Defecate on yourself; urinate on yourself. And some, they would spear in the side.
Those who crucify leave you in the public; and passersby would throw things at the crucified one, because once you are crucified, it's like you “deserve” that punishment. So, the people are not asking for you to come down—they are happy to see you on that cross!
The media role in crucifixion
Study the role that the media has played in the deliberate crucifixion of Black Leaders like Marcus Garvey, who headed the largest independent Black organization in the world. And as Garvey grew, they became frightened because Garvey wanted to connect Black people in America to Black people in Africa. And that, to them, was dangerous.
What did they do? They framed him! They arrested him! They sentenced him to five years in prison; his sentence was commuted, and he was deported in 1927. But Hoover went on to FBI glory because he got rid of Marcus Garvey and the Universal Negro Improvement Association.
W.E.B. DuBois: He was a great scholar among us. DuBois started as a staunch integrationist—like many of us. But later, he echoed a very Garveyite philosophy.
DuBois helped found the NAACP, but once he started growing into this kind of mind about how Blacks needed to concentrate on their economic survival, and began to write in The Crisis magazine some of his thinking, the Whites in the NAACP questioned his emotional stability and his capacity for cooperation. They were suspicious of his motives, and called him a “danger.” They took away his passport; and they literally made Black people to begin to look at W.E.B. DuBois with a negative view.
Paul Robeson: At the height of his fame, he was an entertainer; and activist. He began speaking out against fascism and racism in the United States and abroad.
Robeson became a prime target of the United States government during the late 1940s through the late 1950s. His passport was revoked from 1950 to 1958; and he was under surveillance by the FBI and the CIA, and by the British MI-5 for well over three decades until his death in 1976.
They hated him for his beliefs in socialism and friendship with the Soviet peoples; and, for his efforts to push for anti-lynching legislation. To this day, Paul Robeson's FBI file is one of the largest of any entertainer ever investigated by U.S. intelligence.
***
The U.S. government focused on Black entertainers because Black entertainers had money. Black activists/entertainers, and their White supporters, who wanted to see Black people free, donated their money to movements. The prophecy teaches that anyone of us who could connect us to the outside world was deemed a major threat. Garvey, DuBois, Malcolm, Martin, Elijah Muhammad.
Do you think that Marcus Garvey was a small-time leader who didn't think about preparing future leaders? Do you think Martin King was like that? There's Malcolm X; Kwame Ture (Stokely Carmichael); the Black Panther Party. These were intelligent Black men who knew their mortality. And they knew that if movement was going to continue, they would have to prepare a new cadre of leadership!
The method of crucifixion
In a crucifixion, they nail your hands. They nail your feet. They strip you of your followers by propaganda. They break your legs, so that after you are dead, there is no support for your ideas.
It's not the man as much as it is the ideas of that man. So they must not only kill the man—they have to kill his idea, so that a generation won't come up after him, fueled by his ideas!
Who is the “they”? Some of you like to refer to me as anti-Semitic. I hate that you would say that. In the face of many of those who call me anti-Semitic, they are very, definitely, anti-Black.
There are certain members of the Zionist faction of Jews that have always wanted to control the means by which your crucifixion could take place. Do you notice how every one that got crucified got first crucified in the Media? The Media is used to de-magnetize the person who has attracted large crowds. So, “to de-magnetize” you means to make you, now, unattractive to the people that once were attracted to you.
The growth of Michael Jackson
As Brother Michael grew, he began to change, trying to “fix” things—he fixed his nose; he fixed his chin; he took some of the fat out of his jaws. And later on, you know, he contracted this skin disease called vitiligo. Michael, being before the public, he didn't want to be spotted, so he went to dermatologists who sped up the process. So Michael went from Black at 10 years old, to White in his 40s.
They say when he died, his body was chalk-white. He was bald from the burn of his hair, so he wore a wig. And they say that the pain that he suffered from that burn is what started him on the pain medication.
In a conversation with Brother Michael, when he was in deep depression, I said, “Michael, out of our pain came our creative genius. If it were not for the pain of slavery, we wouldn't have Spirituals. Nor would we have Blues or Gospel. All of that came from our pain.” I said, “Let your pain, Michael, serve your creative genius.”
After that, Michael came out with the album called HIStory; and in the song of the same name, the lyrics speak of his pain: “…How many victims must there be, Slaughtered in vain across the land, And how many struggles must there be, Before we choose to live the prophet's plan. Every day create your history, Every path you take you're leaving your legacy, Every soldier dies in his glory, Every legend tells of conquest and liberty, Don't let no one get you down, Keep movin' on higher ground, Keep flying until, You are the king of the hill, No force of nature can break, Your will to self motivate, She say this face that you see, Is destined for history…”
Then, he wrote They Don't Care About Us:
“Skin head, dead head, Everybody gone mad, Situation, aggravation, Everybody allegation, In the suite, on the news, Everybody dog food, Bang bang, shot dead, Everybody's gone mad, All I wanna say is that, They don't really care about us… Tell me what has become of my life, I have a wife and two children who love me, I am the victim of police brutality, now, I'm tired of bein' the victim of hate, You're rapin' me of my pride, Oh, for God's sake, I look to heaven to fulfill its prophecy and, Set me free…”
***
“They” who? See, he's sending his people messages—out of his pain! This is why Michael was on his way to the cross—because he had touched the hearts of people all over the world: Every race, every culture, every ethnic group, every tribe. There was nothing that Michael hadn't touched. He was becoming dangerous.
Dangerous to who? To those who want to keep you ignorant of who you are, so they can continue to use us as tools and slaves! It's not about hate! This is not about “anti-Semitism.” It's about showing who is anti-Black!
Michael wanted to fight the powers that were controlling him and trying to steal his legacy. He was a wise young man. What you don't understand about the enemy is that when they fear you, the first thing they must do is destroy your reputation. Then, destroy your wealth. And if you're still alive, they say Black people can have him, because he's no more; has no more money. The enemy says: “He's a broken man. You can have him now.”
See, Michael was much more than a man of “song and dance.” Michael was a heart that beat for the love of humanity. I love this brother. And I feel a deep sense of personal loss.
