Although in the immediate aftermath and the days following the State tried to cover its role in the slaughter at the apartment on West Monroe Street on the West Side of Chicago, the truth eventually came out...Thousands of folks made pilgrimages to the West Side Chicago apartment where Hampton and Clark were crucified and martyred to see for themselves just how devilish, barbaric and depraved the machinations of the State was in getting rid of those who were truly obstacles to the status quo and agitators for justice and hue-manity...Many were more than shocked by what they observed with one elderly Black woman calling it 'a northern lynching'...The public outcry and demands for a true inquiry by outside agencies into the tragedy was mounting and all but assured from that time on....In a lengthy civil lawsuit trial that eventually awarded the grieving families of Hampton and Clark 1.85 million dollars along with the U.S. Sen. Frank Church Committee hearings of the 1970s which documented the State use of terrorism against its own citizens through the use of such projects as COINTELPRO, the evidence has been officially documented and available for all time that exonerates Chairman Fred of any true wrongdoing while at the same time showing the State and its actions in a very harsh, grim and disturbing light for all time...
