Bristol Palin, the 17-year-old daughter of presumptive GOP vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin, screws around.
Apparently, she does so without protection, which probably explains her pregnancy from her boyfriend, a self-described 18-year-old "redneck."
Fruit, they say, doesn't fall far from the tree. The folks around Palin's hometown of Wasilla, Alaska, say mom liked to have a good time when she was a cute, perky high school student and beauty queen. At the University of Idaho, classmates knew Sarah Palin as a party girl who chugged beer, favored ultra-short denim cutoffs and wore suggestive t-shirts that said things like "I may be broke but I'm not flat busted."
Her family knew. When news organizations asked for photos of a young Palin after she became John McCain's vice presidential pick, the folks back home provided a photo (right) of young Palin in her dorm room wearing that "flat busted" t-shirt. Another favorite of Palin, according to classmates, was a t-shirt that said "FCK: The only thing missing is 'U.' "
"Yeah, Sarah liked a good time," says a former co-ed who knew Palin at the University of Idaho. "She was real popular with the guys."
Most of us did things when we were younger that we don't like to talk about now. But most of us didn't become politicians who preach family values and morality and misquote the Bible when it suits our purpose while hiding a wild-child past and having a "like mother, like daughter" child banging the local stud.
But Bristol Palin's sexual habits are not the real issue when it comes to Sarah Palin's qualifications to be, as they say, a heartbeat away from the Presidency. Neither is mom's bed hopping as a co-ed. Sarah Palin has real skeletons in her political closet, ranging from the expanding "troopergate" scandal in Alaska to her bald-faced lies about her role in the infamous "bridge to nowhere" and to her membership in the lunatic fringe Alaska Independent Party, a group of wacko separatists who once put one of their own in the governor's mansion.
Palins' record reeks of extremism, from her rabid right-wing views to her blatant political hypocrisy. Her political opponents call her a psycho. It's not an exaggeration. Others consider her dangerous and we've had eight years of psychotic behavior in the White House. We don't need more.
John McCain is an old man with known health problems. His skin cancer may or may not be cured. He suffers lingering effects from his time as a prisoner of war. The odds that he will live through a first term are not good. It he wins, that leaves the nation with a vice president who may be more threatening to our nation than Dick Cheney. That's a frightening prospect and one worth considering.
As a young woman, Sarah Palin screwed around. The last thing we need is her screwing about with the government of the United States.
