In November 2006 Steve Cohen made Tennessee political history when he became the first Jewish Congressman from Tennessee...Before his current job, he served 24 years as a Tennessee State Senator...He is known as The Father of the Tennessee Lottery Scholarship Program, a program which allows millions of dollars in scholarships to be given annually to deserving graduating high school students attending college in Tennessee...Congressman Cohen, a devout music fan, was also a close friend of the late great rock-n-roll musician Warren Zevon...
On February 27, 2007, Cohen introduced a bill in the House that apologizes for African-American slavery and the system of Jim Crow laws that persisted for 100 years after the abolition of slavery...Cohen noted that no president has officially apologized for allowing slavery...The bill had picked up thirty-six cosponsors by the end of the day...
Cohen supports gender equality, separation of church and state, progressive taxation, medicinal use of marijuana, gun rights and capital punishment...He is one of the few representatives from the South to support gay marriage...

Joe Scott was the first African American to ever play Wrigley Field in Chicago, one of Major League Baseball's greatest historic ballparks...He was a standout player and the only African American on his high school baseball team at Tilden High School in Chicago back in the 1930s...He is also only one of 20 remaining living former baseball players to play their entire careers in the legendary Negro Leagues...He is the subject of the recent Memphis Public Broadcasting Television documentary Joe Scott: Memories of the Negro Leagues...
