Abibifahodie Family!!!

Feb. 21, 2015, marked 50 years since one of America's most charismatic, dynamic, controversial, enigmatic, inspirational, feared, celebrated, hated, intelligent orators/leaders was cut down by a hail of bullets in his prime in front of a packed audience in the Audubon Ballroom which included his wife (pregnant with twins) and his four children....Although he drew his last breath that tragic day Malcolm still lives!!! You can kill the dreamer, but never the dream; you can kill the revolutionary, but never the revolution!!!

Malcolm was as great, complex and committed as they come...Malcolm was a rare one who could not be brought with money, fame or gold (according to the late historian Dr. John Henrik Clarke, Malcolm was once offered 3 million dollars to leave the Honorable Elijah Muhammad to start teaching a more "traditional" form of Islam, but he flat out refused)...Malcolm also had the underrated ability to admit when he was wrong and was willing to change in order to be a part of the solution, in order to confront and eradicate the problem...Malcolm experienced the extremes of the human condition, good, bad, and indifferent, in his brief yet full 39 years on this piece of rock we call earth...Let us rejoice in what he left us instead of how he left us...We got a lot of work to do so let's get to it!!! W.E. A.L.L. B.E. TV: The Last At Bat: Negro Leagues Star Art 'Superman' Pennington Interview~2/15/2010
WATCH NOW:

***Art 'Superman' Pennington Bio***

Arthur David Pennington
Nickname: Art, Superman

Career: 1940-1950
Positions: of, 1b, 2b, 3b, ss, p
Teams: Chicago American Giants (1940-1946, 1950),
Pittsburgh Crawfords (1946), Mexican League (1946-1950), minor leagues (1951-1959)

Bats: Both
Throws: Right

Height: 5' 11'' Weight: 195
Born: May 18, 1923, Memphis, Tennessee

Playing for the Chicago American Giants, "Superman" compiled batting averages of .299 in 1944 and .359 in 1945 while finishing second to Sam Jethroe in stolen bases with 18. In 1950 he hit .370 with good power and started the 1950 East-West All Star game, getting a hit in three at-bats. He was the MVP of the 1950 East/West All*Star Game with a game winning bases loaded triple. Art Pennington was an All*Star during the Golden Era of the Negro Leagues when the talent was at its highest. That marked the third All Star appearance for the switch-hitter, having participated in the 1942 and 1946 games respectively. Pennington had a lifetime batting average of .336 in his eight years in the Negro Leagues. The last of these came after a three-year Mexican League hiatus, beginning in 1946 with Monterrey, where he hit .314, and continuing with marks of .291 and .294 with Puebla.

Although playing mostly in the outfield or at first base,Pennington was a versatile player and also could play any infield position, and because he had a strong arm and could throw so hard, he sometimes was utilized as a relief pitcher for a 2-inning stint.

In addition to his summers in Mexico, he played winter ball there, playing in three seasons (1948-1951) in Culiacan. He also played winters in Caracas, Venezuela, and in Cuba, where he hit .234 in 1947-1948. Highlights of his performance in each of the last two leagues include grand-slam homers, with the last one netting him a $500 prize. During his career he also homered off Dizzy Dean in an exhibition contest.

After the breakup of the Negro Leagues, the outfielder-first baseman played in organized ball for an additional nine years but never made it to the majors. A partial season with Portland in the Pacific Coast League in 1949 is the closest he came to the top rung, and he managed only a .208 batting average in the 20 games he played. His greatest success in organized baseball came in the Three-I League in 1952-1954. With Keokuk the first year he won the batting title with a .349 average (a record which stood for over 30 years) and slugged 20 home runs. The next two seasons he batted .329 and .345, the last year with Cedar Rapids. His last two years were with St. Petersburg in the Florida State League (.339) and with Modesto in the California League (.256). He retired following the 1959 season.

After leaving baseball, he worked at Rockwell Collins for twenty-three years, and two years on the railroad in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, before retiring in 1985.

Baseball Career Highlights:
"Hitting a home run off of Dizzy Dean and Sal Maglie in an exhibition game and playing in the 1942, 1946 and 1950 East-West All Star games." Pennington or "Superman"posted batting averages of .299 in 1944 and .359 in 1945 and finished second with 18 stolen bases behind Sam Jethroe. Pennington hit .370 in 1950 and was named to start in the East-West All Star game.

Professional/Personal Accomplishments:
In addition, Pennington played baseball in the Cuban, Mexican and Venezuelan Leagues. Posting
a.349, he was the batting champ in the Three-I League (1952-1954). As a 25-year employee with Rockwell Collins, Pennington also played on Rockwell's company team. He retired in 1985.
Mr. Pennington retired from baseball following the 1959 season and settled in South East side of
Cedar Rapids, IA where he still lives today. He ran for several political offices including sheriff,
mayor and safety commissioner. Mr. Pennington also opened the Home-Run Club, the first
Mixed Race Establishment in Cedar Rapids.

MLK Family Feud: Rev. Bernice King's Letter & Bro. Dick Gregory's Response To It All

Statement From Dr. Bernice A. King: "My Brothers Want To Sell My Father’s Nobel Peace Prize Medal And His Bible”

Atlanta, GA (February 4, 2014). On January 20, as we observed my father’s 85th birthday and The King Holiday, my brothers, Dexter Scott King and Martin Luther King, III, notified me that they want to sell to a private buyer our father’s most prized possessions, his Nobel Peace Prize Medal and his personal Bible which was used by President Barack Obama as he was sworn in for his second term in office and subsequently signed by him. I am absolutely opposed to the selling of these extremely sacred items and I expressed my opposition to my brothers. Although these items have been under my care and custody for the past few years, they have remained in a safe and secure location since my father’s assassination, and my mother’s death in 2006. After I refused to immediately transfer these items to another location at their request, consequently on January 31 my brothers through The Estate of Martin L. King, Jr., Inc filed a lawsuit {Civil Action No. 2014cv241929} to force me to turn these items over for the express purpose of selling them. In my opinion, there is no justification for selling either of these sacred items. They are priceless and should never be exchanged for money in the marketplace.

While I love my brothers dearly, this latest decision by them is extremely troubling. Not only am I appalled and utterly ashamed, I am frankly disappointed that they would even entertain the thought of selling these precious items. It reveals a desperation beyond comprehension. As Mark 8:36 teaches, “For what does it profit a man to gain the whole world and forfeit his soul?” Our Father MUST be turning in his grave.

As a minister of the Gospel, the thought of selling my daddy’s Bible troubles my mind, vexes my spirit and weighs on my soul. The thought of profiting from the sale of the Peace Prize Medal, which my father accepted 50 years ago this year on behalf of the greatest demonstration of peace this nation has ever seen, is spiritually violent, unconscionable, historically negligent, and outright morally reprehensible. This is especially true in light of the fact that my father gave away every dime of the Nobel award money to support the civil rights movement.

My brothers’ decision to sue me is drastic and grieves me greatly. I have absolutely no desire to be in court or to fight yet another public battle. There are crippling questions plaguing our world and our father had many answers. Our energy should be focused on the business of advancing his nonviolent teachings in the world. Nonetheless, some actions are sacrilegious and some things are not for sale no matter the circumstances, including my daddy’s Bible and Nobel Peace Prize Medal. Both are tangible evidence of the faith and devotion of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Coretta Scott King. Parting with this priceless memorabilia should not be an option.

Though I am unsettled at the prospect of losing these treasures, I am steadfast in my strength to protect them. I continue to pray for my brothers, especially that they will recognize that no amount of money can compensate for the priceless inheritance we received from our parents and our responsibility to advancing their legacies.
